Apple is reportedly all set to debut OLED smartphone in 2017. According to a report in Apple Insider, quoting Nikkei, the technology giant is planning to incorporate OLED display technology in its iPhone lineup in 2017, a year earlier than previous estimates.
The report, however, says that the technology will be limited to certain high-end models due to supply constraints.
The Cupertino giant is expected to leverage on OLED's properties to design a curved handset. However, according to Apple Insider report, the tight deadline for 2017 may hurt these plans. "Manufacturers don't have enough time to ensure panel reliability in conjunction with a potentially unconventional design, and Apple wants to bring OLED to market as soon as possible," the report said.
Earlier this week, a Chinese website reported that Apple will launch a high-end version of iPhone 7 Plus with dual cameras which could be named "iPhone Pro."
In a research note, KGI Securities Ming-Chi-Kuo too had said that Apple is working on two versions of iPhone 7, one with a single-lens camera and the other with a dual-lens camera.
According to the note, the rumored iPhone 7 Plus model with a dual-lens camera would be based on the imaging algorithms of LinX Imaging. Apple acquired the Israeli camera company in 2015.
