The
Kaduna State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has concluded
plans to host its first women economic empowerment summit, says Hajiya Rabi
Abdulsalam, the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development.
The
commissioner who said the summit themed: “Setting a Women’s Agenda for the
Change Agenda” would take place between the 8th and 9th of March as
commemoration of the 2016 International Women’s Day made this known during a
press conference with newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday.
“We
hope to utilize the occasion as an opportunity to engage various women’s groups
and communities from across the state to elicit input on the key priorities for
women, the disadvantaged and poor in Kaduna state,” she said
The
summit whose keynote address will be delivered by the Minister of Environment,
Hajiya Amina Mohammed, would feature discussions on wide range of issues
including women and business growth; women in leadership and decision making;
women and social development as well as strengthening government machinery to
deliver for women, among others.
Hajiya
Abdulsalam said discussions at the summit would provide input to the Kaduna
state gender strategy, indicators and targets to deliver results for women in
Kaduna state adding that her ministry was working towards mainstreaming gender
equality and social inclusion in the state to ensure that all MDAs have
indicators and results for women, girls and the poor.
