Zambian students in China have to face up with the trappings of heading to study in a foreign country on the promise of a scholarship with a number of them deported back home.
So far five students have been detained for having visa complications linked to failure to pay full school fees.
The Zambian mission in Beijing has warned that the problem stretches to over 500 students who are stranded.
Ambassador Winnie Chibesakunda said her office was overwhelmed by the number of students who had fallen foul with the authorities.
China has about 1, 500 Zambian students with many heading there on the promise of scholarships.
Chinese universities are surrendering the students to the authorities when they fail to pay the fees.
